Bad Sobernheim Healing Clay Therapy

Natural regeneration in the Felke tradition

The healing effect of earth has been valued since ancient times: the Romans already used healing clay for therapeutic applications. In Bad Sobernheim, the distinctive quality of the regional clay was discovered around 1907, inspired by the teachings of Pastor Emanuel Felke and developed further at what is today Bollants Spa im Park.

For more than a hundred years, Bad Sobernheim Healing Clay Therapy has been a fixture of our hotel’s health concept. Applications include:

  • Cool or warm clay baths
  • Wraps and packs
  • The Rasul Bath (a Middle Eastern ritual in which healing clay muds unfold their effect in a gentle steam-bath atmosphere)
  • Hand and foot baths

The aim is to relieve the body, support the metabolism, and encourage natural regeneration.

The clay bath

The clay bath follows a set ritual that deliberately invites you to slow down. Pastor Felke himself described its grounding effect as a path to deeper inner calm and fresh strength. Our guests can enjoy light, air, and earth baths in the natural spa garden on the Nahe. At the end, you can even rinse the clay off directly in the river if you wish.

The healing clay bath. A beloved classic.

The healing clay bath is a distinctive treatment that today is only available in Bad Sobernheim. Depending on the season, the clay bath takes place in the warm hall or outdoors. For every session, the clay is freshly mixed and individually prepared.

You start with a foot bath in the clay. Moving through the heavy, moist earth generates warmth, circulation is stimulated, and the body gradually settles. This phase can also help with venous and lymphatic complaints.

The clay is then applied step by step to the legs and lower body. Your back stays free while a warming earth mantle forms around the body. Hands, arms, neck, or face can also be rubbed with healing clay. The recommended initial duration is around 15 to 20 minutes.

After the bath, the clay dries lightly in the air and is then gently rubbed off. Sitz baths, showers, or a bath in the Nahe are available for rinsing. Afterwards, the skin is nourished with a conditioning oil. You can let the effect settle in the bathing park or on a lounger.

The earth bath is used for prevention and as an adjunct therapy for various complaints. It is particularly valued as supportive treatment during fasting.

If you have an existing health condition, we recommend discussing the treatment with our medical spa team beforehand.
