From Kurhaus to award-winning health and wellness resort
The story of Bollants Spa im Park goes back to 1907, when the first ‘Felke-Jungborn Kurhaus Dhonau’ was founded on the banks of the Nahe. The facility was built on the principles of the then-novel Felke therapy practice, whose central idea was the healing power of nature’s forces: light, air, water, and earth. When Pastor Emanuel Felke relocated to Bad Sobernheim in 1915, the institution gained further prominence and became an important centre for naturopathic healing.
The journey, however, was not without setbacks. A devastating flood in 1918 destroyed large parts of the Kurhaus. After the Second World War, the facility was occupied in 1945 and could only be rebuilt and reopened in 1948. A further flood in 1981 forced the closure of our storied institution.
In 1982, a bold new chapter began for what is today our health and wellness retreat. We committed to a vision of what our hotel could become and set about laying the foundation for our future. The years that followed brought numerous firsts, among them the introduction of Germany’s first Rasul bath in 1994: an oriental cleansing and care ceremony in which mineral-rich muds are applied and dried in warm herbal steam. With the renaming to ‘Bollants Spa im Park’ in 1998, our former Kurhaus firmly established its position in the tourism sector.
In the decades that followed, our resort earned wide recognition for our wellness concept and our culinary achievements. We received prestigious awards and became the first wellness hotel in Germany to be rated ‘sehr gut’ in quality assessments, the highest rating possible. Starting in 2005, the next generation led what had by then become a 4-star superior hotel into a new future. A further significant step was the award of a Michelin star to our gourmet kitchen.
The expansion of the resort continued steadily in the years that followed. In 2016, a modern spa area called “Frühlingsplätzchen” was opened in the “Halenberg” wing. For the first time, all buildings of the sprawling resort were connected. At the end of 2018, the property was acquired by the investment firm H.I.G. Capital. With the opening of the exclusive PRANA Spa in 2020, the Bollants continued on their path of continuous renewal.
Today, Bollants Spa im Park unites more than a century of tradition with modern standards of health, wellbeing, and refined hospitality. We stand as a symbol of how historic roots and contemporary luxury can merge into one harmonious experience. Since joining the prestigious Marriott Autograph Collection, we have continued on this path. As part of this, our resort is undergoing a comprehensive modernisation, due for completion in summer 2026.
